subtitle.im is a desktop Chrome extension designed to manage YouTube captions automatically while preventing duplicate subtitles. Users can choose to follow YouTube settings, automatically open available captions, or automatically close switchable captions. The extension also detects burned in subtitles that are permanently embedded in video frames and can close YouTube captions when duplicate text is identified. Frame sampling and optical character recognition run locally in the browser, so video frames and subtitle text are not uploaded to a server. Users can decide what happens when burned in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages by choosing automatic closure, a confirmation prompt, or keeping both caption layers visible. Manual CC or C changes take priority for the current viewing session. Pro users can create global, channel specific, and individual video rules, remember confirmed caption closures, and use the service without video limits. The free plan supports 10 successfully handled videos per installation. Pro costs 17.99 dollars per year or 29.99 dollars as a lifetime purchase. A refund is available within 14 days of the first purchase or 7 days of an annual renewal.
