Ponytail 5 is an open source ruleset and plugin for AI coding agents that encourages the least code needed to solve a task correctly. It first reads the existing code and traces the real flow before deciding whether a request should be skipped reused through existing code handled by a standard library supported by the platform or solved with a minimal implementation. The tool supports Claude Code Codex Copilot Gemini Cursor OpenCode pi and other coding environments. Its features include automatic reuse of browser capabilities and installed dependencies focused tests for risky logic review commands for changed files and complete repositories debt tracking benchmark reporting and task cost visibility. Claude Code users also receive a local activity band showing tokens agent time cost reuse levels and test results. Reported benchmark results across 39 tasks show 53 percent less code 45 percent fewer output tokens 26 percent lower cost and 41 percent less time while maintaining similar correctness. The project reports that 98 percent of risky logic includes a test and is released under the MIT license.
