WhoIsCooking is a lightweight Mac application that shows chip temperature, processor usage, graphics usage, and the AI agent or application responsible for intensive workloads. It is designed for Apple Silicon Macs using macOS 14 or later and appears in the Mac notch or menu bar. The app groups each agent session with the work it starts, including builds, tests, development servers, renders, and other related processes, so users can understand system activity without sorting through many cryptic processes. It recognizes Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Aider, Copilot CLI, Ollama, LM Studio, Xcode builds, ffmpeg, Docker, and browser workloads. Its cooling feature moves demanding work to efficiency cores without freezing terminals, closing applications, or stopping active tasks. This can reduce temperatures while allowing work to continue at a slower speed. Users can restore full performance instantly. The app also provides alerts when an agent uses high CPU continuously or leaves development servers running after a session ends. It reads sensors every 20 seconds, uses about zero percent CPU when idle, and consumes approximately 14 MB of memory. WhoIsCooking costs 5 dollars as a one time purchase and is signed and notarized by Apple.
