Mainplane is an open source agent ecosystem designed to let users run AI agents continuously on their own computers or servers. It can operate on macOS Windows and Linux and is distributed as a single Go binary under the MIT license. The platform allows agents to continue working even when a users laptop is closed by turning available computers into always on workers. Users can connect model providers through existing Claude Code or ChatGPT Codex subscriptions or through compatible API keys. Mainplane supports chat through a terminal user interface and a sessions API with synchronized messages. It includes a private mesh network with fine grained security controls and does not require Tailscale. Shared remote file drives allow multiple agents to work with files concurrently while reducing synchronization risks. Additional capabilities include browser automation with existing logins native computer use durable resumable sessions and observable agent state. The system uses approximately 3k tokens of system context and provides visibility into context usage. API keys remain isolated on the server control plane instead of being exposed to workers. The repository has an MIT license approximately 97 stars 6 forks and 200 commits. Installation is available through a quickstart command for supported operating systems.
