Hob is a free open source AI application designed to make local artificial intelligence easier to use. It runs on Apple Silicon Macs, Windows PCs, and Linux computers, allowing users to chat with AI without sending their files or conversations to remote servers. Hob automatically selects a suitable open weight model for the available computer hardware and manages the setup process. The application can work with local files and folders, analyze documents and spreadsheets, inspect images, create charts, fill out PDFs, edit files, and run code in a sandbox. Users can connect email, calendars, and external applications such as Notion or Linear through optional connectors. Access permissions are controlled by the user, and file changes can be undone when supported. Hob supports offline use after installation and model downloads, with web access available as an optional feature. Hob requires at least 8 GB of memory, while 16 GB is recommended for everyday tasks and 32 GB or more enables more capable models. It needs approximately 10 to 25 GB of disk space, or about 75 GB for the largest model. The software is MIT licensed, has no account or subscription requirement, supports 32 languages, and does not include telemetry.
